What is the role of a Support Shotfirer?

Support Shotfirer, also known as a bench assistant or blast crew, does exactly that, supports the Shotfirer.  Your role includes working alongside the Shotfirer and MPU operators on a mine bench, to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Modular Training’s course covers off the skills and knowledge required to support shot firing operations in civil construction, coal mining (open cut), metalliferous mining (open cut), drilling and extractive sectors. It includes on bench practices, storage, transport and handling awareness, blast plan contents, handling explosives and accessories, priming, loading, stemming and tying in (timing) explosives and more.  It is for any trainees in the drill and blast sector; however it is also beneficial to those supervising or managing in the surface blasting space, who want to learn more about what happens on bench.

You can choose to complete the Statement of Attainment by completing onsite practical tasks and evidence collection, or Certificate of completion by the one day theory course only. The Statement of Attainment will be nationally recognised and a valuable addition to any surface blasting professionals CV.
